How to combat BIG DATA when analysing social media (programs)

BIG DATA

How can we use it?

'Big data is the term for a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process using on-hand database management tools or traditional data processing applications.' (Tom White).

'If a traditional database is a collection of data, then big data is a collection of collections of data.' (Cameron Uganec)

Each Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, email account, search engine has data feeds, we see these when we log in, refresh or search for a term. But we only see what the platform chooses for us to see, there is a vast amount of information which is hidden but is still available.

Common programs such as Google Analytics display information which organises, sorts and displays the information into a usable form. Which marketers can then make decisions.

Nexalogy is a program which helps you make assumptions using data from your Twitter feed. Nexalogy allows users to filter out information leaving only workable data, shown below;

As you can see the program filters the information leaving 'clustering words' which then are formed into maps.

Here's mine which http://nexalogy.com/ created;

From all this information users can establish what words are connected to each other, and from that identify the customers wants, needs and interests.
